PACE Canada Workshops

PACE Canada Online training launched October 26, 2001!

Since PACE Canada was officially launched at the Family Medicine Forum 2000, the demand from providers across the country for PACE Canada training and materials has rapidly increased. In response to this demand, we have now developed the PACE Canada Online Training Module.

Available after October 26, 2001, the PACE Canada Online Training Module provides health care providers with ready and immediate access to all of the information they need on how to effectively counsel their patients in healthy active living. Endorsed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and provided free of charge to all PACE Canada subscribers, the PACE Canada Online Training Module effectively assists providers in their ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality, preventive health care to their patients. How can you organize a PACE Canada training workshop in your area?

PACE Canada workshops can be arranged by any organization interested in training their health-care professionals in how to use the physical activity and nutrition interventions included in PACE Canada.  Such organizations might include community health units, hospitals, private practices, and other healthcare associations. We can provide you a sample invitation letter, including a check list to assist you in your planning.

Why should you use PACE Canada?

The program works!  New Canadian studies reveal that it does not require special medical training and the resources and tools have been found to be effective in increasing physical activity levels of patients. It incorporates Health Canada’s 4 Guides to Healthy Physical Activity and is based on proven behaviour-change techniques.  It also addresses important barriers to physical activity counselling, requiring only 2-5 minutes of a provider’s time to administer.   The intervention consists of 4 simple steps:

  1. Select and inform patients,
  2. Administer assessment,
  3. Advise patients, and
  4. Follow up with patients.
