PACE Canada - News 2001
Update January 4, 2001
PACE Canada was launched at the Family Medicine Forum in Ottawa on October 18, 2000. The launch was accompanied by a well-attended PACE Canada training session conducted by Dr. Storm Russell, the PACE Canada Project Manager and Senior Researcher at the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute, and Dr. Bill Mackie, a Vancouver Family Physician.
The popularity of PACE Canada is well-founded. Although most physicians are aware of the health benefits of physical activity and nutrition, no comprehensive counseling package has been available to Canadian physicians, until now. PACE Canada provides the necessary tools and training to guide physicians and other health-care professionals through the process of counseling their patients to a more healthy and active lifestyle.
Several new PACE Canada activities are planned for the year 2001:
- An online training module is in the process of development. This will enable health-care providers across Canada the opportunity to receive the proper PACE Canada training regardless of geographical location.
- A research study of the PACE Canada materials is being conducted in collaboration the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit's "Heart Health Initiative" to examine the long term efficacy of PACE Canada over the next two years.
- PACE Canada training sessions will be conducted in various communities across Canada. Please visit our Training Program for more information about dates and locations of training sessions.
