PACE Canada kits can be purchased for the cost of 95.00 each, plus shipping and handling (prices are subject to change without notice). The PACE Canada order form can be printed out and faxed or mailed to the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle and Research Institute along with payment. Payments should be sent to PACE Canada at the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute

What is the difference between the "PACE Canada Physical Activity Kit" and the "PACE Canada Physical Activity and Nutrition Kit"?
Answer
PACE Canada kits comes it two forms, the Physical Activity Kit, and the Physical Activity and Nutrition Kit. The PACE Canada Physical Activity and Nutrition Kit includes all of the physical activity counseling material contained in the Physical Activity Kit, plus a nutrition component for counseling patients on healthy eating. Both physical activity and healthy eating lifestyle factors that contribute to obesity. Some health-care providers prefer to focus on physical activity counseling only, while others prefer to combine counseling their patients to be more physical activity with counseling them to improve their eating habits.

Are the PACE Canada resources available for use by other health-care providers?
Answer
There has been significant interest in the PACE Canada resources by both non-physician health-care providers and physicians and other health care providers from outside of Canada.
Although the PACE Canada material was designed for Canadian physicians, other health care providers have found it useful in counseling patients. Both PACE Canada counseling kits, as well as PACE Canada online training are available to all interested health-care providers.

How can I get more copies of the PACE Canada assessment booklets?

If you already have access to the limited access area of our site, you may download the PACE Canada assessment booklets for free and print them out. Alternatively, nutrition and physical activity assessment booklets may also be ordered through the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute for a cost of $2.85 per booklet. These may be ordered by phone or fax using you credit card or by mail with cheque or money order. Contact PACE Canada at the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute to order more.

What type of PACE Canada training options are available to me?

There are two types of training available to health care providers:

Online training
Available since October 26, 2001, the PACE Canada Online Training Module provides health care providers with ready and immediate access to all of the information they need on how to effectively counsel their patients in healthy active living. Endorsed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and provided free of charge to all PACE Canada subscribers, the PACE Canada Online Training Module effectively assists providers in their ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality, preventive health care to their patients. To register, providers must first purchase the PACE Canada toolkit, for $95.00, plus shipping and handling (prices are subject to change without notice). Once payment has been received, providers will receive the PACE Canada toolkit, a password for the online training, and a password for the limited access area of the web site which contains an electronic version of the PACE Canada kit.

Training Workshops
In-person training workshops last about two hours and are highly interactive, designed to provide practical opportunities for physicians in simulated practice settings. Topics include:
reviewing and discussing different counseling scenarios
developing effective practice strategies (including dealing with the resistant patients
addressing patient barriers to physical activity
maximizing the effectiveness of counseling in clinical settings
dealing with high risk populations
integrating PACE Canada into different practice settings
- tailoring PACE Canada to suit your practice style
PACE Canada training workshops must have a minimum participation of 15 health care providers. PACE Canada provides the PACE Canada tools and experienced trainer. The cost of a PACE Canada workshop is $1500 plus cost of travel and hotel (prices are subject to change without notice) for the PACE Canada trainer. Is the PACE Canada Training CME accredited?

Physicians who have completed the PACE Canada Online Training may apply for MAINPRO-2 credits as a self-learning activity through the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Please visit the CFPC web site, Maintenance of Membership section under "other self-learning activities" for more information about how to proceed. We are currently working towards making PACE Canada Online Training compliant with CFPC requirements for MAINPRO M1 and/or MAIINPRO C accreditation. This process is expected to be complete in the fall of 2002.

PACE Canada workshops can be organized by any organization interested in training their health-care professionals in how to use the physical activity and nutrition interventions included in PACE Canada such as community health units, hospitals, or physician and other healthcare associations.
